Die 35 secondenfilmpjes zeggen trouwens ook niet echt heel veel he... behalve dat ze kunnen zingen maar dat wisten we al... maar de mensen die de hele performance zien zijn laaiend enthousiast

Als die muzikanten weg waren gelaten, dus puur die achtergrond en de ondergrond en Ilse en Waylon tegenover elkaar, was ik nu zeker van de finale.

4. The Netherlands
It starts with a camera hovering above both singers and you can see a street/highway separating both. They are using a microphone stand that holds both microphones so they face each other for the entire song. Shortly after the colors of the ground changes into something that looks really abstract but quite eye catching and somewhat dreamy. It's uncertain if they are just wearing casual close if they're planning on wearing it next week. Ilse was wearing black pants with a white top while Waylon was mostly wearing black and a Cowboy hat.
The two singers are joined onstage by three musicians playing the drums, bass and guitar.
As expected, vocally they are on top of it.
Matt: If you like the song, you'll be happy with the execution, if you're no fan then I don't think it'll win you over. These are pros and they sound amazing. I'm hoping for a bit more eye contact but other than that I am giving this a big thumbs up
Madeleine: I was afraid the Stage would be too big but they're doing a great job with the cameras making it look "smaller". Some of the graphics used were a bit distracting. Overall I really liked it.

Ilse komt haar belofte na. Er ís nagedacht over de staging. We beginnen met een shot van bovenaf, waarbij je de strepen op de weg over de vloer als scheidslijn tussen Waylon en Ilse naar achteren in het perspectief ziet weglopen. Het is meteen duidelijk, dit is een roadsong. Ilse staat tegenover Waylon en ze kunnen elkaar recht in de ogen kijken, spanning is voelbaar, dat is positief en toch een soort chemie, die we wilden. Waylon zit misschien nog iets teveel in zijn hoofd en concentratie. Ilse kijkt perfect in en ook vooral langs de camera, maar Waylon doet het ook per doorloop beter. De vloer veranderd in een soort koeienhuid met weinig wit en vervolgens in een soort warrige kluwen van wortels maar nu veel wit en weinig zwart. Voor het eerst sinds jaren heeft Nederland eens een goed doordachte visualisatie. Er wordt in ieder geval het maximale uitgehaald.

We've had three acts so far, with much more to come. Kicking the afternoon rehearsals off are Dutch superstars Waylon and Ilse Delange, who decided to give Eurovision a go as 'The Common Linnets'. They've had their first rehearsal today. Here's the run through.
A perfect first run through for the Netherlands. The camera starts above the duo and zooms in to Ilse and Waylon who are faced in front of each other for the full song. The camera circles around the two, although the pair have been joined by a contrabass player, a guitarist and drummer.
The stage floor has been transformed in a concrete road with signs onto until somewhere mid way the song when thorns and tree trunks take over and intertwine on the stage floor. During the second run through I noticed towards the end how the stage flooring turns really white grey'ish and how it's very overpowering. Perhaps they should tone it down a little.
Overall however, it's really effective staging for a non-typical Eurovision song.
The camera work is cleverly done as well, with a few moments where there's eye contact with the camera and let me tell you, Waylon's deep eyes are going to captivate you.

First up are The Netherlands with their lovely country ballad. This is performed exceptionally, both Ilse and Waylon are playing their guitars and are standing facing each other separated by a moving road in the middle of the stage which looks great. They are also joined by a cellist, drummer and a bass guitarist. The lighting for this looks great, and they are both singing perfectly. Simple and understated are the words to describe this performance. Country music definitely has a fan base, but the question is will they be watching Eurovision next Tuesday? I think based on this rehearsal, The Netherlands will be qualifying for a second year in a row.
Als Waylon gewoon weer in het zwart met die hoed gaat (ja, dus), dan hoop ik dat Ilse ook gewoon d'r videoclip outfit aantrektquote:
