Disney’s Marvel and Netflix Join Forces to Develop Historic Four Series Epic plus a Miniseries Event Based on Renowned Marvel Characters
Landmark Deal Brings Marvel’s Flawed Heroes of Hell’s Kitchen, led by “Daredevil,” to the World’s Leading Internet TV Network in 2015
Burbank, Calif. - Nov 7, 2013—The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix Inc. today announced an unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel’s most popular characters exclusively to the world’s leading Internet TV Network beginning in 2015. This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs leading to a miniseries programming event.
Led by a series focused on “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel’s “The Defenders” mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.
Produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Television Studios, this groundbreaking deal is Marvel’s most ambitious foray yet into live-action TV storytelling.
“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment. “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”
“Marvel’s movies, such as Iron Man and Marvel’s The Avengers, are huge favorites on our service around the world. Like Disney, Marvel is a known and loved brand that travels,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “With House of Cards and our other original series, we have pioneered new approaches to storytelling and to global distribution and we’re thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude.”
bron:http://screenrant.com/mar(...)ries-new-showrunner/quote:Marvel Studios has already had a good 2014, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier breaking box office records with a huge haul in April. Plus, the exciting second trailer for their ambitious August release, Guardians of the Galaxy, has left fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe eager for more.
Then came yesterday’s news that director Edgar Wright has walked away from his long-in-development Ant-Man film for Marvel Studios. The details on what led to Wright’s departure have not been confirmed, but rumors suggest that extensive rewrites to the original screenplay by the director and Joe Cornish led to Wright’s exit. This seems like an isolated incident, but it might be just the first in a series of developmental shake-ups at the studio.
Today, Latino-Review broke some news concerning another hotly anticipated Marvel property: El Mayimbe’s sources said that Cabin in the Woods director Drew Goddard has left the Daredevil series, which is set to air on Netflix. Goddard was set to write and direct the pilot episode of the show, and then remain aboard as showrunner.
Marvel has since confirmed this, and reports that a new showrunner has been named. Steve S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer) will take over the project for Goddard. Read the official press release below:
Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed writer, director and producer Steven S. DeKnight (“Spartacus,” “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer,” “Angel”) has joined “Marvel’s Daredevil” as Executive Producer & Showrunner on the all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Drew Goddard, who also wrote the first two episodes, will continue to serve as Executive Producer on “Marvel”s Daredevil” as he writes and preps Sony’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” spin-off film, “The Sinister Six.”
Drew Goddard and the Sinister Six Drew Goddard Exits Marvels Daredevil Netflix Series; New Showrunner Named
Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 spinoff Sinister Six - with Goddard set to direct - could, according to the rumor mill, begin filming as soon as January 2015, which has led to the speculation that the film could see a release as soon as 2016. Regardless of whether that’s accurate or not, it seems that Daredevil’s production schedule just left too slim a window for Sinister Six.
It appears that Goddard’s voice will still influence Daredevil, since he has written the first two episodes and is remaining involved in a consulting capacity. What Marvel and Daredevil fans gain with DeKnight is a seasoned veteran of geek-friendly television. Besides his work on all three seasons of Spartacus and on Buffy, DeKnight worked with Joss Whedon on Angel and Dollhouse, along with a stint on Smallville.
Just as Edgar Wright’s leaving Ant-Man has apparently not affected the film’s release date, there is similarly no indication that Daredevil has been delayed, with the 13-episode initial season still set to debut on Netflix in 2015. With the supposed start date of July, 2014 just around the corner, can we expect an official delay in production? Or will the show’s casting be confirmed soon instead? Stay tuned for details as they emerge.

Kingpin is begonnen als Spider-Man schurk, maar heeft daarna veel meer met Daredevil te maken gehad omdat hij beter past in die context.quote:Op dinsdag 15 juli 2014 09:39 schreef planethugo het volgende:

Premiere Date For Marvel And Netflix's DAREDEVIL Revealed?
Though it's not official, the PlayStation 3 version of Netflix has a premiere date listed for Marvel's Daredevil, and it's a lot closer to the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron than you may have suspected. Will we see a tie-in of some sort between the two? Read on for details!
The ever reliable @Marvel_Spider spotted the following premiere date for Daredevil, and while it is of course subject to change or could be an error of some sort, we may now have a better idea of when we'll see the 13-part series debut on the online streaming service. Of course, it's worth nothing that May 1st is the same date that Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to be released, so would Marvel be wise to release this show on the same day?! It's hard to say, although it wouldn't be at all surprising if that movie's after-credits scene was somehow tied to Daredevil and encouraged people to go home and watch it. We'll be sure to bring you more details on this when they come!

The former Doctor Who has been tapped to co-star in Marvel's Netflix drama series Jessica Jones, Marvel.com announced Monday.

Don't Trust the B alum Krysten Ritter will star as the title character, who after a tragic ending to her short-lived superhero stint, is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York.
Tennant will play the villainous Killgrave, an enigmatic figure from Jessica's past whose reappearance will send shockwaves through the former superhero's world. The 13-episode series will premiere on Netflix in 2015. Twilight's Melissa Rosenberg will oversee the series.
In the Marvel Comics universe, Killgrave (aka Purple Man) first appeared in Daredevil No. 4 in October 1964. He's an international spy who, in the 2000s, emerged as an enemy to Jones and her husband, Luke Cage (who will be played by The Good Wife alum Mike Colter in the Netflix dramas).
For Tennant, the Jessica Jones role marks his stateside follow-up to Fox's Gracepoint, a remake of British drama Broadchurch, which recently returned for a second season. He's repped by Independent Talent Group and UTA.

UPDATE: Looks like Moussi may have jumped the gun as he removed the tweet below pretty quickly last night.
Does this mean that he spoke to soon or he’s been cast and Marvel told him to take the tweet down? We’ll have to wait and see…
————————————————————————————
In the wake of the current production of the Kickboxer remake, Kickboxer: Vengeance, you may have been wondering exactly what lies next for its debut lead actor, Alain Moussi. Well, he may have given us an answer via his latest tweet.
It seems that Moussi may be in the running to play Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist in the Iron Fist Netflix limited series. Trust me, if you’re a kung fu fan, you definitely have reason to be excited.
While neither group has officially confirmed the plot or Moussi’s involvement in the new Iron Fist series, all roads currently point to a potential storyline involving the Heroes For Hire story arc with actor Mike Colter who is currently tapped to play superhero Luke Cage in Netflix’s upcoming A.K.A. Jessica Jones to air sometime in 2015 or 2016.
In the meantime, if there is anything worth taking away from Moussi’s post above, it’s the promise of watching the blooming career of a rising martial arts action star for a new generation of kung fu and comic book fans.
What do you think as Moussi as Iron Fist?

Another major casting addition has now been made to A.K.A. Jessica Jones, and it's once again a character from the comic books! Grey's Anatomy star will be playing Patsy Walker in the Marvel/Netflix series, but will she suit up as Hellcat? Hit the jump for all of the official details...
Marvel and Netflix have announced today that Rachael Taylor will play Patricia "Trish" Walker in Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones. According to the official description, "Trish is a syndicated radio talk show host, former model and child TV star known to her adoring fans as "Patsy" Walker. As Jessica Jones’ closest friend, Trish helps her embark on the most dangerous case of Jessica's career." Despite being on the somewhat on the obscure side, this character has been around since the '40s, and became Hellcat in 1976. Will that happen in this series? It remains to be seen.
"The character is a star and a powerhouse, and required an actress who is both," showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said in a statement today. "Rachael is all that and more!" Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television adds, "Rachael's ability to embody a character that must balance both the darker and lighter elements of our series will provide a perfect emotional anchor for Jessica Jones. Rachael blew us away with her grounded, humanizing take on Trish, adding yet another layer to the complex, emotional story we’re telling with this series."
This is an interesting addition to the A.K.A. Jessica Jones, and it's going to be interesting to see how the character is handled in the series. Would you guys like to see Taylor suit up as Hellcat?
