It occured to me the other day that the music and video of "Dark", which I shared with you this weekend, is maybe my most multi-geographical piece so far. In case you were wondering where it all took or takes place... It starts late in the evening in a small French village called Le Grand-serre (the giggle you hear is my brother Bernard), while the bird that appears shortly after lives actually in a forrest in Utrecht (NL). In the video you see Seoul (South Korea) by night, followed by scences underwater from Eindhoven (NL) and a forrest in Utrecht. To set the mood, voices of two grannies join in. They are complaining about the Dutch healthcare system during a journey by train to Zwolle (NL), which is followed by rain and thunder from Utrecht. A sunset behind a barbed wire fence somewhere in Denmark then takes you to the second half of the track, where an airplane lifts off from Antalya (Turkey) in the direction of Istanbul to take you over some Turkish mountains and lakes. A bit of contrast is then coming up. While the visuals take you up in the air above Turkey, the birds and the ocean you hear are comfortable situated in Honolulu (Hawaii). Then when the song is ready for it's landing, a trumpet player and a neurotic humming tourist in Prague (Czech Republic) guide us safely to the end.
Of course it would have been awesome to have visited all these places myself, but luckily I got some help with this track. The recordings and footage taken from Korea, Turkey and Hawaii were taken by my girlfriend Emine. (The perks that come with a traveling girlfriend ).
