A: Ja. 6 maart is hij in ons land en speelt hij samen met de italiaanse band Zu In tivoli oude gracht in Utrecht

Q: Wat is dat Ipecac Recordings
A: Dat is een label opgericht door Mike Patton & greg wreckman en is thuis voor de meest uiteenlopende bands van de post-hardcore van Isis tot de dub van dub trio tot rauwe hip-hop van dälek en zelf pop van immani coppola en northern state hebben hier albums gereleased. Het label gaat contracten aan per cd en is dus ideaal voor one-off projecten.

Over a decade in the making along with Folio B, Book of Souls is Secret Chiefs 3s most elaborate work yet. With productions based in studios in the SF Bay Area, NY, LA, Seattle, UK and France over the last 11 years, the bands leader Trey Spruance enlisted a small army of musicians or actually not so small, since the orchestral tasks demanded by the music seem effectively unlimited in number.

But familiar names in the SC3 canon form the backbone of the recording-band: Timba Harris, Ches Smith, Shahzad Ismaily, Anonymous 13, Danny Heifetz, William Winant, with live-band initiates Matt Lebofsky, Kenny Grohowski and Toby Driver adding extra life among the zillions of enlisted musical enablers.

On Book of Souls: Folio A, it is evident that Secret Chiefs 3 continues to operate in blissful ignorance of current musical fashions, remaining enchanted only by what can be unlocked in modern mediums by applying a specific recipe of pre-modern (often ancient) processes to them.

While its true that the album represents the kind of titanic, almost Faustian undertaking that one would expect as being uniquely appropriate to Secret Chiefs 3, for all the pomp its easy to forget that everything having to do with the recording is D.I.Y. to the core. Book of Souls: Folio A is a fully organic production. Everything is honed with love in one of the last hermetically-sealed laboratories. Some may snort at the notion that there even could exist such a cauldron of limitless fascination extending so rigorously beyond the time/space boundaries of modern occidental groupthink; a place in-between, suspended, where the simplest motifs have the freedom either to radiate upward into geometric complexities that are beyond description, or to refine downward to a state of simple musical essence. But it's the usual thing at the SC3 lab.

This press-release is offered as a summons to the impartial jury of all earthly ears. All snorts and scoffs will be answered with a supra-sensory choir. Coming in May and September.

SC3 heeft het bericht over het nieuwe album weer van de site afgehaald

Patton was goed bezig met Templars in Gent wel grappig dat het heel duidelijk was dat er veel patton fans op afkwamen... waar het jazz publiek niet heel blij mee was.

Het was een tof concert, met allemaal eigenaardigheden, patton leek geirriteerd zowel naar het publiek als naar de collega bandleden, het was duidelijk dat het het publiek niet enthausiast genoeg vond, zijn bandleden was hij ook behoorlijk aan het opstoken... verder was er de mededeling dat trevor dunn met een nederlandse ging trouwens, en hij kwam dan ook voor de toegift terug met een eindhoven de gekste shirt aan

De toegift eindigde met een punk nummer en een country nummer one drink and then one more, and then another


waarna het publiek trouwens het hardst juichte wat weer met een sarcastisch glimlachje opgepikt werd door patton.

Wat ik wel jammer vond was de complete patton adorisatie in de zaal ik zag voor mij iemand met een telefoon patton op te nemen (die gewoon stilstond) tijdens een solo van de gitarist (buiten zijn beeld)

Een ander minpuntje was geen nummers van anonymous.... (als ik het goed heb)

lauw publiek was het wel maar de punkcover veroorzaakte toch een mini-pitje.... patton verwachtte meer van zijn publiek dat was wel duidelijk.

Ja dat heb ik ook wel een beetje... tomahawk is ook wel een erg mild patton project eigenlijk (mild als in minst verrassend)

De nieuwe secret chiefs 3 kan gepreordered worden ik ben benieuwd!

We're excited to announce that we'll be releasing a series of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (At The Drive In/Mars Volta) solo albums with the first release, Sworn Virgins, available digitally on July 15.

The previously unreleased albums were recorded from 2008 to 2013, while Rodriguez-Lopez lived in Zapopan, Mexico and as well as his eventual return to El Paso. The titles will be released on a bi-weekly basis with the first spate of albums running through the end of the year. Each album will see a digital release with a limited number of physical copies (CD) available on Rodriguez-Lopez’s various live outings. Following the initial run of releases, a limited edition CD/LP box set will become available.

“The best part about having a record label is that you get to choose to work with people that you really admire,” said Ipecac's Greg Werckman. “We had all admired Omar’s work from afar and then recently got to know him up close. It was so great to find out that as talented as he is, he is an even better human being and we love having him as part of the Ipecac family. But, it seems that he has blatantly taken advantage of our friendship. Sure, we were excited to release his solo catalog... but this many titles??????? What have we gotten ourselves into?”
