Later... With Jools Holland returns for its 49th series with the sort of exclusives that makes it the key taste-making destination in music television.

Nashville's Kings of Leon return to Jools's theatre of dreams with their first album in three years, Walls, which finds them re-energised and returning to the anthemic sound and classic songwriting of their best work, thanks in part to producer Markus Dravs. Jack White has appeared on the show with the White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Dead Weather, and recently toured and fronted not one but two bands of different genders, but now he makes his solo acoustic debut, re-interpreting songs from his back catalogue, many of which are previously unreleased, ahead of a whole album collecting acoustic work from 1988-2016.

Multi-Grammy award-winning Sting has sold over 100 million albums and has been touring the past two years with both Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel, but he has also found time to make his first straight-ahead rock 'n' roll album in many a year. 57th & 9th refers to the street he crossed on his way to the New York studio where he recorded this thirteenth solo work, showcasing Sting at his canniest and most direct as displayed in new single I Can't Stop Thinking About You, which echoes his work with The Police. Stir into that the dark R&B of LA's Banks, who is about to release her second album The Altar, and Antibes-grown LA-based Frenchman Anthony Gonzalez's band M83, with the delightful 80s inflected disco dream pop of seventh studio album Junk, and you've got the kind of mix that only Jools can provide - all quality, no filler.

Nashville born-and-bred singer, pianist and songwriter Kandace Springs performs a track from her sparkling full-length Blue Note Records debut, Soul Eyes, a winning fusion of jazz and soul.

And legendary guitarist and founder of Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page makes a trip to chat to Jools.

Joining Jools on the fifth show of the series is the classic rock and roll band The Pretenders. Led by the inimitable Chrissie Hynde, they play tracks from their upcoming ninth studio album Alone, their first since 2008. Joining them will be the record's producer, Dan 'The Black Keys' Auerbach.

Two black British artists are making their TV debuts on the show tonight. Londoner Samm Henshaw is shaping up to be a new star of British rock and soul - he manages to combine a rich retro sound, steeped in a soul tradition, whilst pushing it forwards with subtle experimentation and strong songs. South London unsigned singer and rapper Ray BLK has grown out of the British grime scene and has been getting a lot of attention for her songs that channel her likes, loves and occasional dislikes for her hometown into soulful and honest R&B tracks like My Hood, that you won't be able to get out of your head.

Finally also making their debut on the show are Empire of the Sun, the collaboration between Luke Steele, of alternative rock act The Sleepy Jackson, and Nick Littlemore, of electronic dance outfit Pnau. Together, these alt-electro pioneers are known for their elaborate stage sets and futuristic outlandish vibe. Their 2008 debut album Walking on a Dream brought the duo international success. They showcase a couple of tracks from their much anticipated third album Two Vines, along with a headdress or two.

Chatting to Jools are Paul Rodgers, Simon Kirke and Mick Ralphs, three of the original members of Bad Company. The 70s rock stalwarts have reformed for a swan song tour of the UK.

US born folk singer-songwriter and humourist Loudon Wainwright III appeared on the second ever episode of Later... back in October 1992, and he returns to the studio 350 shows later to entertain and amuse with a number or two from his latest and 26th album Haven't Got the Blues (Yet).

Plus a performance from rising British blues rock guitarist and singer Joanne Shaw Taylor, who is making her debut on the show with a couple of tracks from her recently released fifth studio album Wild.

Series 49

Joining Jools on the penultimate show of the series and making her debut is Danish electro-pop singer-songwriter MØ, originally one half of a Danish feminist anarcho-punk duo and more recently known for her chart-topping collaborations with electro group Major Lazer. With a fierce stage presence and uninhibited, wild live performance style, she will be performing a track or two from her upcoming second studio album.

Also making her debut is British-born Indian sitar player Anoushka Shankar, daughter of sitar maestro Ravi Shankar. Performing in a trio with double bass and hang, the five time Grammy-nominated musician will be performing a unique performance adapted from her eighth studio album 'Land Of Gold'.

Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sande, who made her debut on the show back in 2011. She returns to perform tracks from upcoming second LP Long Live the Angels, the much anticipated follow-up to her multimillion selling 2012 debut album, Our Version of Events.

Returning to the show nine years after their last appearance are Chicago band Wilco, with their tenth studio album Schmilco, a mostly acoustic collection of songs, and the fifth album by the current line-up. They also perform a track from last year's surprise release Star Wars.

LA art-rockers Warpaint recently returned with their third studio album Heads Up, which employed their usual dream-rock mysticism, but this time combined with a newfound danceability in their sound. Taking time out from their UK tour, the female quartet deliver a taster of their propulsive live show.

Performing solo is Russian-born, New York-based singer and pianist Regina Spektor, who has become one of her generation's most respected singer-songwriters. She returns to the show with a couple of numbers from her recently released seventh studio album Remember Us to Life, which is a bold, orchestral take on avant-pop.

Joining Jools in his music box for the last show in the series are London's electronic music production duo Chase and Status, aka Saul Milton and Will Kennard, who are about to tour the UK and continue to straddle the UK's dance, urban and grime scenes. They bring some of their recent collaborators, including singer Tom Grennan and Manchester grime MC Bugzy Malone.

Oxford's Glass Animals continue that city's fine tradition of indie rock morphing into funkier territory and make their debut on the show performing songs from their second and breakthrough album How to Be a Human Being.

First appearing on the BBC in 1967, the legendary Puerto Rican guitarist and singer Jose Feliciano makes his debut on the show almost 50 years later. Blind since he was born, Feliciano was raised in the Bronx and became an international star in 1968 with his interpretation of The Doors's Light My Fire. He continues to record in Spanish and English and performs a couple of his classics and a new song from his forthcoming album.

Joseph, aka sisters Natalie, Allison and Meegan Closner, possess stunning sibling harmonies, hail from Oregon, and make their UK television debut with White Flag from their second album I Am Alone, No You're Not.

Another American debutante is Californian Nick Waterhouse, whose intimate feel for the retro dance styles of 50s R&B, rock 'n' roll and even boogaloo shines through on his third album Never Twice.

Brooklyn 'noise pop' duo Sleigh Bells shake the studio with songs from their fourth album Jessica Rabbit. Alexis Krauss and Derek Edward Miller know how to stalk a stage, blending blockrocking beats, distorted guitars and Krauss's troubled but commanding presence with a sound that suggests a Garbage for today!

Jools Holland returns for the 50th series of the BBC's flagship music show. Joining him on the first show from Kent are Leicester's own rock and roll troupe of merry men, Kasabian, who debut songs from their upcoming LP For Crying Out Loud. It is their sixth album and no doubt contains more rousing stompers that will be played in their many festival headline spots to come this summer.

Making their UK TV debut is West Coast-based Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals. Anderson is a singer, songwriter, producer and
drummer and one-time protege of Dr Dre - he runs through a couple of tracks from his Malibu LP, a 'breezy blend of R&B, funk, soul and pop'.

UK electro-duo Alison and Will, aka Goldfrapp, are back with songs from their seventh album Silver Eye, which sees them return to the deep and dark synth-pop sound of some of their earlier work. More debuts on the show come courtesy of Thundercat, the Los Angeles bass player and Kendrick Lamar collaborator, whose jazz-infused hip-hop/soul vibe has been winning friends and reviews through thrilling his live shows and third album Drunk. From Austin, Texas come rock band Spoon, who since forming in 1993 have been consistently releasing albums to critical success. They finally make their TV debut here with a song or two from their recently released ninth album Hot Thoughts.

Completing the line-up is Phoenix-born singer songwriter Courtney Marie Andrews, who topped the UK's official Americana chart back in January with her third album Honest Life, a collection of songs of everyday, hard-working lives tinged with longing, regret and belief.

Other artists coming up in the series include Ed Sheeran, Valerie June, Future Islands, Royal Blood, Jamiroquai, Robert Cray, The xx, Lorde, Stormzy, Blondie and more.

Jools Holland returns with a special celebration episode at London's Royal Albert Hall. With a variety of acts on the bill representing long-time show favourites alongside a handful of debuts - the very mix that has made Later's reputation for a quarter of a century - there is something for everyone.

They made their Later debut in 1997 and 20 years later, fresh from a sold-out O2 show, Foo Fighters combine songs from their ninth studio album Concrete and Gold with career classics. Paul Weller has seen his solo career go almost hand in hand with Later since his debut on the show in 1993 and performs acoustically with his band with songs ranging across his solo career, from Wildwood to now. The original Celtic soul brother Van Morrison is on hand with numbers from his new Roll with the Punches long-player, and is joined by Chris Farlowe.

Dizzee Rascal has evolved from the grime underground into one of the UK's national treasures since debuting on Later in 2003, and plays one of his career bangers along with a track from his acclaimed comeback album Raskit. Twenty-year-old Brummie-cum-Londoner Jorja Smith makes her debut with a wise-beyond-her-years mix of hip hop and soul that has wooed the likes of Skepta and Drake. Gregory Porter is no stranger to the show, and performs with Jools, taking in the Nat King Cole songbook.

Fresh from collaborating with Gorillaz, the American-Colombian R'n'B bombshell Kali Uchis makes her Later debut, with songs from her eagerly anticipated second album. Previous Later performances from Camille have seen the French chanteuse scribble across her face and perform while lying on a rug, so anything is possible as she returns with songs from her latest album OUI.

Mali's Songhoy Blues will get everyone on their feet with funky choice cuts from their recent Resistance album. She famously made her TV debut on the show in 2004, and we are thrilled KT Tunstall is going to reprise her brilliant Black Horse and the Cherry Tree at the Royal Albert Hall as a special treat.

Since 1992, Later has hosted both legends and debutants, as well as bringing a whole range of music acts and performers to a wider audience, and after over 350 shows, it still continues to be the best showcase of live music on TV.
