Net via Twitter met Ashok Chokalingam van de Indiaase Amrut distilleerderij en 6 andere whiskyliefhebbers op de wereld een tasting via Twitter gehouden.
Het principe is dat de organisator/distileerderij de samples per post toestuurt aan de deelnemers, waarna je ze gezamenlijk op een vooraf afgesproken datum/tijdstip gaat proeven en via Twitter gaat beschrijven.
Voor wie het interesseert, hieronder de geproefde whiskies en mijn tasting notes:
Amrut Single Malt 46%
Color/body: Pale gold, thin legs
Nose: Crabmeat, vanilla, fresh wood, banana, exotic fruit, chestnut
Palate: Spicy wood, liquorice root, chestnut again, a little laurel
Finish: Medium, orangepeel, fresh grass, a little rubber at the end
Amrut Intermediate Sherry Matured 57.1%
Color/body: Gold, like glue on the inside of the glass
Nose: Nose: Wet leaves, chocolate, cherries, orange, some pears, vanilla, icing sugar
Palate: Sweet, spicy sherry, chocolate, liquorice, vanilla, plums, mango, white pepper, some anise
Finish: Long, pepper, spicy cookies, hints of cinnamon, dark chocolate
Amrut Mystery Malt, 62%
Color/body: Amber, thin, fast legs
Nose: Sweet syrup, pinewood, exotic fruit (papaya, mango, banana), sherry, hints of wine/grapes must, chocolate, shortbread
Palate: Sweet wine, smooth, roasted bacon, some coconut, dark chocolate, wood (tanine), hay
Finish: Slowly fading away, still sweet & fruity, a little wet soil, lovely!!
Amrut Fushion 50%
Color/body: Strawgold, thin long legs, seems oily to me
Nose: Lightly peated and some smoke, vanilla, hints of citrus & coconut, some nutmeg & glue
Palate: Sweet syrup, white pepper, a bit smoke,fresh floral leaves, less peated as I thought it would be, milk chocolate
Finish: Long, fresh grass & wood, herbal, creamy
Amrut Peated 46%
Color/body: Strawgold, thin slow legs
Nose: Peat, hints of tar, floral, smoked fish, vanilla
Palate: Some peat/more tar, meat gravies, white pepper + mint = peppermint, creamy
Finish: Long, mint keeps hanging on, fresh grass, sal ammoniac once again
