http://www.espnscrum.com/(...)by/story/140538.htmlquote:Fiji could be forced to sit out this year's Rugby World Cup in New Zealand for financial reasons, according to local media reports.
Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga, the head of the Fijian Rugby Union (FRU), has alleged that team manager Pio Bosco Tikoisuva believes that F$5million will be required to properly prepare the national side for the tournament.
While the government has promised to provide $3million in funds, it has thus far only approved the release of $400,000. It has not been established if that money has yet reached the union or when the rest of the promised financial support will be forthcoming.
This worrying news comes less than a week before Fiji, who reached the quarter-finals of the 2007 World Cup in France, are set to unveil a 50-man provisional squad for this year's event. They are scheduled to compete in Pool D alongside reigning champions South Africa, Wales, Samoa and Namibia.
There is also the possibility that if Fiji do manage to raise sufficient funds to travel to New Zealand, some of their players might not be allowed into the country. Fijian citizens with links to Commodore Frank Bainimarama, whose military regime seized control of the country in 2006, are currently not permitted to enter New Zealand and that could spell trouble for a number of Fiji's players. The International Rugby Board (IRB) is asking for leniency for the Fijians but New Zealand Prime Minister John Key insists that he will not be backing down on the issue.
"At the end of the day, we don't take our riding instructions from the IRB," Key told AP. "Our view is that we want to see democracy restored in Fiji. This is the only thing that we've got that holds their feet to the fire."
Phillips suspended from Wales' squad following alleged fracas at McDonald's
Lions scrum-half Mike Phillips fears he will miss the World Cup after being banned by Wales following a late-night altercation in Cardiff city centre.
The 28-year-old, who split with girlfriend Duffy last month, was led away by police in the early hours of Tuesday after a row with door staff outside a McDonald’s.
Serieus?

quote:Hernandez to miss World Cup
Argentina have received a monumental blow ahead of the forthcoming World Cup with the news that star back Juan Martin Hernandez will miss the tournament after failing to recover from a right knee injury.
Pumas coach Santiago Phelan today unveiled his 30-man player list to play in New Zealand and confirmed Hernandez will not be there. Hernandez suffered his injury in March, playing for French club side Racing Metro against Bourgoin. He underwent surgery and began an intensive rehabilitation process in the hope of recovering in time for the World Cup.
Phelan cut nine other players from his provisional squad: Agustin Figuerola, Genaro Fessia, Lucas Borges, Martin Bustos Moyano, Eusebio Guinazu, Rafael Carballo, Santiago Guzman, Andres Bordoy and Gabriel Ascarate.
Bordoy and Ascarate will travel with the squad for their warm-up Test against Wales in Cardiff on August 20, to provide back-up in case of injuries.
Familiar names included in the World Cup squad include Leicester's Horacio Agulla and Marcos Ayerza and former Leinster fly-half Felipe Contepomi. Former Sale No.8 Juan Fernandez Lobbe will be a key component in the Argentinean team if they are to emulate their 2007 World Cup form and he will look to Exeter Chiefs' new winger Gonzalo Camacho for tries.
Argentina will play Wales on August 20 at the Millennium Stadium before starting their World Cup campaign against England on September 10 in Dunedin.
Argentina World Cup squad: Horacio Agulla, Patricio Albacete, Marcos Ayerza, Marcelo Bosh, Maximiliano Bustos, Gonzalo Camacho, Alejandro Campos, Manuel Carizza, Felipe Contepomi, Agustin Creevy, Julio Farias Cabello, Juan Fernandez Lobbe, Santiago Fernandez, Juan Figallo, Mariano Galarza, Alvaro Galindo, Lucas Gonzalez Ambrosio, Agustin Gosio, Juan Imhoff, Alfredo Lalanne, Mario Ledesma, Juan Manuel Leguizamon, Martin Rodriguez, Rodrigo Roncero, Federico Sanchez, Martin Scelzo, Leonardo Senatore, Gonzalo Tiesi, Tomas Vallejos, Nicolas Vergallo.

WITH just over two weeks to the start of their World Cup campaign, flanker Sean O'Brien has emerged as a major injury concern for Ireland.
The European Player of the Year is understood to have sustained a heavy knee injury in training which places him in doubt for Ireland's opening clash with the US on September 11 and rules him out of the final warm-up international against England at Lansdowne Road on Saturday.

Phew. Jammer dat ik de wedstrijd zaterdag niet kan zien, Ierland-Engeland is natuurlijk een mooie pot en wil Tuilagi graag een keer aan het werk zien.quote:"Sean will be fine, it wasn't prudent to include him this weekend," said Kidney.
