Manic Street Preachers is een Welshe band die zich begeeft binnen het Britpop genre. Aan het eind van de jaren 90 stond de band bekend als één van de belangrijkste groepen in Engeland. De band heeft veel bekendheid opgebouwd door de wat ruigere eerste albums (later opgevolgd door rustiger en meer genuanceerd materiaal) en de mysterieuze verdwijning van gitarist en componist Richey James Edwards (mogelijk zelfmoord). Een deel van de songteksten gaan over de politiek, waarbij de nadruk ligt op het socialistische gedachtegoed. Dit werd onderstreept toen de band in 2001 als eerste Westerse rockband optrad in het Karl Marx Theater op Cuba , wat geregistreerd is op de DVD 'Louder than War', waarbij er een ontmoeting met Fidel Castro was.

Het was weer een mooie avond. 
With the sun and the moon on either side of his helmet, a new star is born in the name of Valentino Rossi.
Ondanks de enorme hitte heb ik me prima vermaakt gisteren.
Setlist week niet zo heel veel af van die hierboven en werd er in hoog tempo binnen 1 uur en 3 kwartier doorheen gestampt.
Respect voor de drummer van het voorprogramma The Sore Losers (waar men toch echt een betere geluidsman moet aannemen, niks verstaan van de teksten): Om de 10 seconden je afglijdende bril terug op je neus duwen, terwijl je ondertussen op die ketels loopt te hengsten...

Ze komen niet vaak naar Nederland, maar als ze dan komen dan heb je ook wat. Heerlijke setlist en een geweldig optreden met helaas vooraan een vrij lauw publiek . Gelukkig stond ik naast een paar lui uit Wales die er wel veel zin in hadden. Fijne tent trouwens De Melkweg waar ik normaal Het Paard of Rotown gewend ben.
Het ging mij alleen allemaal veel te snel voorbij, gelukkig stond er nog een prima band in The Waterhole.

EUROPEAN TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
INTERNATIONAL TREASURES
Following a hugely successful end to 2011 with the release of the top ten singles collection National Treasures and a celebratory sold out show at the O2 Arena in London in December, MANIC STREET PREACHERS will head out in April and May for their first European tour in ten years.
The tour will see the band perform a SELECTION of songs from their 38 track singles compilation National Treasures. The London show received rave reviews (see below) and these gigs will be a must see for all die-hard Manic fans.

Toch wel jammer dat ze niets van Journal for Plague Lovers spelen. Dat vind ik echt een geweldig album en daar speelden ze de vorige keer ook al niets van. Ok, nu snap ik wel dat het deze keer min of meer een soort van greatest hits tour is, maar dan hadden ze er de vorige keer toch wel wat van kunnen spelen.
