Dat is wel even wat anders dan de eredivisie. Niveau in Schotland is toch een stukkie lager.

Toch zijn zij toch ook niet helemaal tevreden met de loting als ik dat zo lees.
Ze zijn vooral over hun eigen team niet echt tevreden haha.

Sommige vragen zich af waarom de nummer 7 van de Eredivisie zich heeft weten te plaatsen voor de Europa League. Ze hebben daar natuurlijk geen weet van ons play-off systeem voor Europees voetbal.

Celtic is en blijft favoriet, maar kansloos zijn we niet.
In ieder geval een geweldig affiche. Hopelijk halen we daar een aardig resultaat (1-1, 2-1, 1-0 verlies) dan zijn we verzekerd van een volle bak.

MICHAEL MOLS is in mischievous mood as he answers the call he has been expecting since FC Utrecht popped out of the Europa League qualifying draw alongside Celtic.
“Let me guess, my views on Utrecht?,” laughs the former Rangers striker. “I’ll need to think about it.”
In reality, the Dutchman would happily speak about Utrecht all day. Mols represented seven clubs during his long career, yet retains an unshakable affinity towards this particular former employer, a club which finished seventh in the Eredivisie last season and entered the Europa League through the Dutch play-off system.
Utrecht are Mols’ club. His two spells there came either side of his five-year stint at Rangers and it was at Utrecht where he made his name as a forward of some renown in the late 1990s, earning a £4m move to Ibrox.
Formed in 1970 when three clubs joined forces, the modern-day Utrecht – barring the odd KNVB Cup success – have generally operated in the shadows behind Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven. To Mols’ genuine excitement, their profile will be raised when they take on Celtic. Not that he expects them to progress.
“My heart says Utrecht, but my head tells me that Celtic should be too strong,” Mols said. “Utrecht have improved in recent years, but if I’m honest, Celtic will probably have too much quality.
“Utrecht made a few good signings last season and their goal was to qualify for Europe. They managed to achieve that and I believe they can have another successful season, but I don’t know if they can beat Celtic. Everything depends on the first leg at Celtic Park. If Utrecht can return to Holland with even a small chance of progressing, they could cause an upset. If Celtic win by two or three goals, it’s going to be very hard.
“I’m just happy to see Utrecht playing in Europe against such a famous club. The supporters are buzzing and it has been big news in Holland. In terms of my own career, I owe a lot to Utrecht and I hope they can get a positive result against Celtic.”
One area in which Utrecht have a clear advantage is in squad continuity. Against Braga, Neil Lennon handed home debuts to six summer signings – Cha Du-Ri, Charlie Mulgrew, Efrain Juarez, Joe Ledley, Gary Hooper and Daryl Murphy. Beram Kayal, the Israeli midfielder, was ineligible in midweek, but will be in contention for the Europa League.
Given that the Celtic manager has intimated he still wants to add a further four new faces to his pool, it could be weeks before Lennon gets a settled side and formation. Utrecht, virtually unchanged from last season, have no such worries.
“The Utrecht players are used to each other and have a good team spirit,” said Mols. “There have been very few, if any, new signings and they have a settled team. That could help them, because Celtic have made many changes to their side and will not have gelled together.”
Coached by Ton du Chatinier, Utrecht’s squad is a melting pot of various nationalities, none of whom are household names. The Canadian-born Czech midfielder Jacob Lensky had a three-year spell in the Celtic youth system between, while the wonderfully-titled Ricky van Wolfswinkel – linked with a move to Parkhead last season – recently earned a call-up to the senior Dutch squad and is expected to move on before long.
Michel Vorm, a goalkeeper and a member of Holland’s World Cup squad, has also been integral to Utrecht’s success, but Mols believes Dries Mertens, a diminutive Belgian playmaker, poses the biggest threat to Celtic. “Martens is only 23 and he is an exceptionally gifted player,” he said. “He is not the tallest, but he is skilful and creative and will cause problems for Celtic.”

Ik las in de krant dat van Wolfswinkel nekklachten had ofzo? Het toont in ieder geval al aan wat ik al een jaar lang roep; van Wolfswinkel is ontzettend belangrijk voor Utrecht, zelfs al komt hij niet aan de bal...
