http://www.roadburn.com/2(...)oadburn-2011-lineup/We are excited to report that Place of Skulls has been added to the lineup of next year’s Roadburn. Place of Skulls will appear at the Midi Theatre on Friday, April 15th 2011 as part of the Roadburn Festival. Sunn O)))’s curated event will be held on the same day at the 013 venue.
“We don’t really need to expound too much on Place Of Skulls as it’s founder member is none other than Victor Griffin, that’s right, he of doom legends Pentagram and Death Row. In terms of emotive, dense, groovy riff-o-rama he’s truly one of the great heavy vibe architects, this is not mere hyperbole, it is pig iron hard FACT.
“If you listen to metal / stoner / doom / hard rock of any kind, i.e should you consider yourself to be an epicurean of the thundering power chord, and you haven’t yet checked out Place of Skulls, then, dear Roadburn attendee, doom utopia awaits!
“When you groove out to a Victor Griffin riff it’s worth grooving to, and its beatific tones linger pleasantly in the soft creases of your brain like the beguiling vapour trails of a mild opiate. In the pantheon of doom, Place of Skulls sit higher than most, yes there are clearly heavier and more bombastic purveyors of doom, but mere volume alone is no competition to excellence, and Place of skulls excel at what they do.
They are a rich, heady vintage wine and should be imbibed with reverence, and treasured unlike the majority of the saccharine fizz that masquerades as metal these days. So fill up your chalices and drink deep brethren and welcome to the sacred doomiverse of Victor Griffin and his Place of Skulls” - Jason De L’orme, Roadburn.
In other related news, Soilent Green, Alcest, Blood Ceremony, Ghost (Sweden) and In Solitude have just been confirmed for Roadburn Festival 2011.
