ATHENS: Drivers waited in queues for hours at petrol stations across Greece on Friday as a week-long customs strike over pay cuts left many pumps dry.
The 72-hour strike by customs officials to protest salary freezes and bonus cuts, which began Tuesday, has been extended until Feb. 24.

Meanwhile, France has 10 to 20 days of fuel supplies to cope with a worsening refinery strike, the French Petroleum Industry Body (UFIP) said, ruling out an imminent petrol shortage as Parisians head off for their winter holiday.
Workers at Total's six French refineries extended their three-day strike on Friday and the CGT union said some petrol stations could run out of fuel as soon as this weekend.

Feb. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Total SA refinery workers on strike at six plants across France began shutting crude-processing operations and warned of fuel shortages in the coming days.
“The shutdown process has started,” Michael Crochet- Vourey, a company spokesman based in Paris, said by telephone. The process of halting refining operations may take a few days, he said.
Workers at Total’s six French refineries and seven out of 31 fuel-storage depots walked out for a third day to protest the permanent closure of oil processing at the idled Flanders plant near Dunkirk. Employees have criticized Total’s decision to scale back refining in Europe while expanding in the Middle East, according to the Confederation Generale du Travail union.

Hmmm... 12 miljoen?
LONDON -(Dow Jones)- State oil company Saudi Arabian Oil Co., known as Saudi Aramco, still has 4 million barrels a day of spare crude oil capacity, in addition to its daily production of 12 million barrels, a senior executive from the company told reporters Tuesday.

The amount of area leased to oil and gas companies is on track to reach around 70 percent of the region
A rapid and unprecedented proliferation of oil and gas concessions threatens the megadiverse Peruvian Amazon. The amount of area leased is on track to reach around 70% of the region, threatening biodiversity and indigenous people. This is one of the central conclusions from a pair of researchers from the Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals (ICTA) of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and the Washington DC-based NGO Save America's Forests, who have, for the first time, documented the full history of hydrocarbon activities in the region and made projections about expected levels of activity in the near future.[..]
quote:The Oil Bubble Controversy, Revisited
One of the curious things about economic debate in the later Bush years was the conviction among many on the right that there wasn’t a bubble in housing, but that there was one in oil.
We now know the truth about housing. But what about oil?
Oil prices did spike to triple-digit levels in early 2008, then drop sharply. But think about the fact that right now, with the world economy still seriously depressed, oil is at $80 a barrel. This suggests to me that high oil prices are largely caused by fundamentals.
And it also suggests that resource constraints will be an issue if and when we do get a full recovery.
Kennelijk denk jij hier anders over. Wat betekent 'peak oil' volgens jou?quote:Op maandag 22 februari 2010 17:46 schreef DiegoArmandoMaradona het volgende:

quote:China passes US as top Saudi oil importer: energy secretary
ABU DHABI (AFP) – China has surpassed the United States, long the top importer of Saudi oil, in short-term average daily imports from the petroleum-rich Gulf kingdom, US Secretary of Energy Steven Chu said Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.
"It's correct, as far as I know," said Chu, when asked if China has recently moved ahead of the US in terms of average barrels-per-day oil imports from Saudi Arabia.
He did not provide specific figures.
As Chinese demand will likely continue rising and the US is trying to cut back its consumption of oil, especially from foreign sources, China might continue to be the main importer of Saudi crude.

Do Texas and the North Sea Foretell the Future of Oil Production?
Oil supply optimists claim that new technology combined with private development of the world's remaining oil resources--most of which are now under the control of government-owned companies--would vastly increase global oil production and put off any decline for decades. Texas oilman Jeffrey Brown isn't buying it, and he cites the history of oil production in Texas and the North Sea to explain why.
[..]
Brown's not saying that better technology, private development and better access won't allow the world to pump more oil than it otherwise would have. He's just skeptical that these things by themselves can ultimately overcome the enormous losses currently being experienced in the giant fields that are past peak or those that soon will be. And, that means that even if the optimists could wave a wand and make conditions ideal worldwide for oil development from this day forward, it might not save us from a nearby peak in world oil production followed by a relentless decline. We have only to look at Texas and the North Sea to understand why.
