Volgende week woensdag opent Titanic 3D, trouwens. Ben benieuwd. Qua boxoffice.

Men’s Picks for Most Anticipated Summer Movie:

[...]quote:One of the most troubled productions in recent Hollywood memory, Sony Pictures' latest movie in the Will Smith-Tommy Lee Jones sci-fi-comedy franchise encountered multiple script rewrites, a discontented star and a three-month production shutdown as writers and studio executives scrambled to fix a project that nearly fell apart.
By the time it was over, the studio had run up a tab of nearly $250 million — making "Men in Black 3" one of the most expensive releases of the summer.
Opening Memorial Day weekend, the film known as "MIB3" faces formidable marketing challenges given that the last sequel came out a decade ago. That means an entire generation of youngsters never saw an "MIB" in theaters, and the bar for summer event pictures has risen considerably by such high-octane spectacles as current mega-hit "The Avengers."

But he [Sonnenfeld] ultimately convinced all involved that he had a strong vision for the film.
[...]quote:With Smith and the other talent lined up and a sizable New York City tax credit that was available only before the new year, Sony rushed the movie into production in fall 2010 despite not having hammered out all the plot elements.
"Obviously, going into production without a finished script was not ideal," said Doug Belgrad, president of Sony's main film label, Columbia Pictures.

The studio hired multiple writers to rework the historical scenes.
To accommodate the rewrites, a holiday break that was intended to last two weeks was extended to mid-February and then again to March. Much of the crew was retained during that time, adding millions of dollars to an already hefty budget.

WARNER Brothers is withholding data on weekend box office takings from "The Dark Knight Rises" out of respect for victims of the Colorado massacre, a studio spokeswoman said Saturday.
The announcement came as industry daily Variety reported that the Batman movie finale made an estimated $US75 million ($72.3 million) in the US on Friday, the third biggest opening ever.
Rival studios, including Disney, Sony and Universal, have followed suit in saying they will not report box office takings, Variety reported.
"Out of respect for the victims and their families, Warner Bros. Pictures will not be reporting box office numbers for 'The Dark Knight Rises' throughout the weekend," a Warner Bros spokesman said.
"Box office numbers will be released on Monday."
Variety cited rival studios' data for its $US75 million estimate for Friday takings, which include midnight Thursday screenings like the one in Colorado, where 12 people were killed and 58
The box office figure, if confirmed, would put the Batman movie third behind last year's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," which earned $US91.1 million, and this year's blockbuster "The Avengers," with $US80.8 million, Variety said.
Suspected gunman James Holmes was arrested shortly after the shooting at a midnight premiere screening early Friday in Aurora, Colorado, in which he was clad all in black with full body armor and a gas mask.
Bomb experts are still working to defuse a sophisticated system of booby traps in the 24-year-old's nearby apartment, which police say were set up possibly to kill officers arriving to search it after the massacre.
