quote:CUP: Stewart Lobbies For Danica In NASCAR
Will she or won’t she?
Tony Stewart thinks she will — someday, anyway.
“She,” of course, is Danica Patrick, the only marketable star in the IndyCar Series, part-time fashion model and a driver in her final contract season with Andretti-Green Racing.
All summer long, Patrick has flirted with a move to NASCAR, talking with Chip Ganassi, among other team owners, and visiting a number of NASCAR shops in the Charlotte area. And while it now appears she’s going to sign one more contract with AGR, her pal and fellow former IndyCar racer Tony Stewart thinks she’ll eventually end up in NASCAR somewhere.
“I can pretty much guarantee you at some point she’s going to be over here,” Stewart said Saturday morning at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

For a guy who all year long has pretty much refused to talk about racing for a championship all year long, Mark Martin is making it hard for himself to keep quiet on the subject of the Chase for the Sprint Cup and his place in it. Which not coincidentally is at the very top of the points right now.
Martin overcame three caution flags in the final 20 laps at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to claim victory in the Sylvania 300. It was the 50-year-old veteran’s series-high fifth win of 2009, the 40th of his career and his first at the 1.058-mile track in 26 attempts.
And, oh yeah, it extended his points lead to 35 over both three-time defending series champion Jimmie Johnson, who finished fourth, and race runner-up Denny Hamlin. Juan Pablo Montoya finished third after leading the most laps. He is now 55 points back.
Behind the top four are Kurt Busch (-65), who finished sixth in the race; Tony Stewart (-74), eighth on the day; Brian Vickers (-90, 11th); and Greg Biffle (-92, ninth).

Saudi's, zelfs in NASCAR te bewonderen straks.quote:In what could turn out to be one of the oddest pairings in the history of American stock car racing, Richard Petty Motorsports' primary shareholder George Gillett Tuesday signed an 'exclusive commercial collaboration' agreement for his stake in the team to Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah al-Saud, a member of the Saudi Royal Family. The agreement signed Tuesday forms a partnership that will see the development of a NASCAR racing circuit and Richard Petty racing schools in the Saudi Kingdom and elsewhere in the Middle East. "The Middle East sport market has immense growth potential as eager fans in the region demand access to more diverse, higher caliber competition. I am delighted, enthusiastic, and honored to have the opportunity to partner with such a visionary in His Highness Prince Faisal," said Gillett after the signing. According to many however, the agreement signed Tuesday is the first step to Gillett selling his stake in the team. As the two were publicly confirming the agreement, behind the scenes, Gillett and Prince Faisal acting on behalf of the Saudi sports investment group F6 he chairs, have begun a process of 'due diligence', the examination of financial records, with the goal being that Gillett would be bought out by the end of the year. The primary deal in the works actually centers on British football club Liverpool that Gillett owns a 50% stake in, but the deal would also include Richard Petty Motorsports. The Prince was at Anfield Stadium in England on Saturday as a guest Gillett, who confirmed that he has secured funding from the Saudi prince for his NASCAR team and an agreement to build Liverpool-branded football academies in the Middle East. The entire deal is reportedly worth up to $560 million.(NASCAR Examiner)
UPDATE Foster Gillett has confirmed there are no major ownership changes contemplated at Richard Petty Motorsports. The Gilletts are the majority owners of Richard Petty Motorsports and plan on being so for a long time.(RPM)(9-29-2009)

Tony Stewart finally slowed the Hendrick Motorsports juggernaut, as he won Sunday’s Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway, the third of 10 races in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Stewart's No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolets, of course, use Hendrick chassis and engines, but the regular-season points leader was the first non-Hendrick driver to win a Chase race after Mark Martin won at New Hampshire and Jimmie Johnson won at Dover.

Nascar Trulli Train. :Dquote:F1's Trulli, Salo to test with Michael Waltrip Racing
Michael Waltrip Racing will test Jarno Trulli and Mika Salo at International Speedway in Lakeland, Fl., the week prior to the NASCAR season finale at Homestead Miami Speedway.
Trulli, 35, currently drives for Toyota in Formula One. He finished second last week in the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka and is currently eighth in the World Championship. Trulli's sole F1 win came at the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix in 2004 while driving for Renault.
After Trulli completes the F1 season on November 1 at Abu Dhabi, he will be fitted for his seat at MWR then join the organization to observe for the final three races.
Trulli dropped in at Michigan Speedway last June to watch the Sprint Cup race. With the current uncertainty surrounding Toyota's future in F1, it appears that Trulli is considering stock cars as a viable option.
Salo, 42, competed in F1 from 1994 to 2002 and posted two podium finishes. In 2007, Salo won the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series. He currently competes for a team that MWR co-owner Rob Kauffman has an interest in Europe.
According to Cal Wells, executive vice president of MWR, Salo "has wanted to do this for a long time."
"We're serious about the test — we're not going to jack around," Wells said. "It's a real deal. But I'm not sure what it's going to turn into. It depends on what is real. It depends on what we can afford to do. We don't have a sponsor here saying, 'Let's go get a Finnish driver'. But, I think after a proper evaluation if he can go to Finnish companies that would support him in the U.S., then that would be wonderful. So, Rob is the catalyst for that.
