ORGANISATION PRESS RELEASE
It is with deep sadness that the organisation was informed that 49-year-old Pascal Terry (192) was found dead in the night of the 6th to the 7th of January at 2:10 in the morning.
The biker appeared to be in a place difficult to access in the middle of very thick vegetation, at around 15 metres from his bike. He had taken his helmet off and had sheltered in the shade with water and food found next to him.
The police and justice of the Province of la Pampas will process legal investigations
in order to determine the cause of the death.
January the 4th
During the stage of the 4th of January at 12:30, between Santa Rosa and Puerto Madryn, Pascal Terry had informed the organisation that he was out of fuel and that he had then been able to get some from another competitor.
Despite this and due to the fact that he hadn’t moved, the organisation called his Iritrack a first time at 6:38 PM and a second time at 7:14 PM without anyone answering.
Before that, at 5:13 PM, rally time (9:13 PM in Paris), the organisation headquarters in Paris had been informed by SARSAT that Pascal Terry had launched his distress signal.
January the 5th
The organisation on site was only informed at the beginning of the day.
At 5:46 AM the same day, the vehicle in charge of closing the track had tried to find the rider. In the afternoon, the civil defence also did researches without success in a very tricky place to move through making their operation extremely difficult. At 7:25 PM a national search was launched by the police on all the territory.
January the 6th
At midnight, false information announced the presence of the rider at the Neuquen bivouac, stopping the searches. Later that day, discovering that he had been mistaken with another competitor, the organisation sent a rescue vehicle on site with a doctor on board. At the same time a search operation was planned by the police. The rescue team eventually found the rider at 2:10 AM on the 7th of January.
