McLaren have been moved back up to the middle of the pitlane for the Monaco Grand Prix, following their relegation down to the bottom end for the last three races.

The Woking-based team had started the season in the fifth slot between Williams and Red Bull Racing, but were informed prior to the Bahrain Grand Prix that they would be moved to the last position - after alleged complaints from rival teams.

Although it was expected that they would remain there for the rest of the season, the pitlane allocation for Monaco has seen them return to the slot between Williams and Red Bull Racing.

No reason has been specified.

McLaren, whose motorhome remains at the bottom of the paddock, were unconcerned about being at the bottom of the pitlane – especially because it gave them an advantage in getting a clear exit from the pits after refuelling stops.

"Technically, it's an advantage as far as we can see and where we are in the pit lane doesn't affect the races," team boss Ron Dennis said in Bahrain. "If there is an outcome, it will be positive not negative.

"Obviously some of the other facilities are not as good as here in Bahrain, it can be a bit of a squeeze, but we're very resilient to this sort of thing."

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has said he will defend his corner in the battle for the future of the sport if FIA president Max Mosley wants a fight over it.

Reacting to a letter Mosley wrote to national automobile clubs last week, ahead of the FIA Extraordinary General Assembly meeting on June 3 to decide his future, the Briton warned that the governing body risked losing control of F1 to commercial rights holders Ecclestone and CVC partners if he was forced from office.

Ecclestone has said he was taken aback by those suggestions and has revealed that CVC is to follow up Mosley's letter with their own explanation of the situation.

"I sincerely hope that it isn't a declaration of war because, if that's what the message should be, then we'll have to defend ourselves," Ecclestone told The Times.

"That is what anyone would do. I don't believe that's what Max wanted the letter to say. I don't want to have a war with Max. I hope he doesn't want one with me.

"This whole business is really about what was printed in the News of the World and whether this in any way damaged the FIA clubs or the FIA - that's all.

"It's nothing to do with anything else and I don't quite know why he's come out and said these things. I am sorry if the press have reported things which he doesn't like, but we certainly don't have any influence over the FIA."

Ecclestone revealed that CVC had held a meeting to discuss Mosley's stance and agreed to write a letter to the automobile clubs themselves to set the record straight.

"We have decided we are going to contact all the clubs who Max wrote to, with a reply to the matters raised in his letter," Ecclestone said.

"I think the General Assembly of the FIA was called for one reason only - to decide whether or not they think Max is the right person to be their president. The vote will be on that, not about the Concorde Agreement."

Alonso signs for Ferrari

The word in the F1 paddock in Monte Carlo is that Fernando Alonso has just inked a deal to drive for Ferrari in 2010.

No confirmation is expected for a year, and there may be denials of any arrangement, as there would obviously be some serious knock-on effects for other parties in the F1 paddock.

Alonso went to Renault this year after splitting with McLaren unexpectedly at the end of last season. It was a stop-gap solution for the Spaniard, although it was dressed up as the big return to the team with which he won his two World Championships. This year the team's performance has been rather disappointing and Fernando has scored just nine points, while Nelson Piquet has failed to score and the team is languishing in seventh place in the Constructors' Championship. Unless there is a dramatic improvement soon the team will have no hope of finishing the year better than fourth in the championship and there have been rumours for some time that ING may be looking around at other opportunities.

Fernando has made no secret of the fact that he will consider other offers if they are sensible. He has been angling for a ride at Ferrari for some time. It may seem that is a rather premature move, but these days in F1 deals are being done much earlier than used to be the case. Kimi Raikkonen's deal with Ferrari, which began in 2007, was first reported as being done as early as October 2005. Alonso's 2007 deal with McLaren was announced in December 2005. Thus now would be the time that deals are being done for 2010.

However, the Security Service’s vetting procedures – which regularly update the personnel files of all officers, looking for potential security breaches – failed to uncover details of the relationship.

A security source said: ‘The main focus of the procedures is to ensure MI5 officers are not connected to anyone who poses a direct security threat.

‘But once someone joins the Service, much of the continuous vetting relies heavily on people’s honesty and integrity.

‘Staff are expected to tell the vetting department when they are in a serious relationship. In this case, this officer chose to conceal this part of his life completely, even after he married.’

Investigations by The Mail on Sunday reveal why he could not have told his bosses about his wife and have expected to keep his highly sensitive job.

Many of the images on the site are too obscene to describe in a family newspaper.

Adverts for her services appear on other S&M websites, together with an interview about how she decided to make a living from it.

She says she had been involved in sadomasochism for seven years and went ‘professional’ in 2005, around the time she moved to Milton Keynes – when her husband began working for MI5.

She adds: ‘I would say I am a sensual sadist. I love to punish, torment, chastise or humiliate a slave but I am not a whip wielding shouting/screaming maniac.

Last night, neither Mistress Abi nor her husband could be contacted for comment. A mobile phone number previously used by her clients was switched off.

Alan Banks, her American-based website provider, said: ‘Her site has been taken down.’ He offered to pass on details to his client, but added: ‘I don’t think you will hear from her.’

Security sources have dismissed any suggestion that the surveillance officer was involved in the secret filming of Mr Mosley in a ‘torture dungeon’ at a £2million flat in Chelsea.

They said the officer was unaware of it until after the story appeared in the papers.
But the fall-out caused acute embarrassment after MI5 chief Jonathan Evans had to tell the Prime Minister one of his agents was caught up in the affair.

He also gave a categorical assurance that MI5 was not involved in an operation to entrap Mr Mosley, who is not considered a security threat.

De enige manier waarop hij nog kon rijden was door die wagens (die allemaal stil stonden door de touche van Alonso met Heidfeld) te passeren. Ik kan me niet voorstellen dat hij daarvoor bestraft zou zijn. Er is tijdens de race ook geen drive-through uitgedeeld (terwijl er tijd genoeg voor was).
