En ook nu wordt gemeld: "And it was a place the McCanns knew well. They'd been to the resort before. The main attraction for the young parents was the resort's "award-winning childcare." Ook de The Times schrijft: "The McCanns are believed to have stayed once before in Praia da Luz and had returned because they considered it a safe resort." Maar Clarence Mitchell heeft altijd verklaard en ook in dit artikel uit november in 24 Horas: "that this was the first time that the couple was in Portugal." Leugenaar, maar dat was al bekend.

En verder is het natuurlijk enorm toevallig dat hat apartement toebehoorde aan ene Ruth Mccann (snel verkocht) waarvan de familieconnectie onduidelijk blijft ondanks de ontkenning. Bron "A Portuguese police source said: "It is a pure coincidence". Ruth McCann, 53, lives minutes from Mossley Hill, Liverpool, where Kate's parents, Brian and Susan Healy, still live. She said today: "I will not speak to the press, not now, not ever." The Ocean Club Resort is run by holiday company Mark Warner, but it is understood the company acts as an agent for owners of the apartments." Eerder gepost.

This week, we have received a polite notice that we should desist from referring to, or indeed inferring the existance of, rogatory letters being considered by the Home Office. This 'request' has been passed to all organs of the news media. I haven't quite got to the bottom of how and why this has come about and I'm not sure if I will. It is possible that there is a deliberate effort to avoid uninformed speculation on the timescales involved, or the process being followed and that the Home Office want to deal with this quietly, methodically and professionally without undue external influence or interference."

Maddie's parents seek charity's help

The parents of missing Madeleine McCann have visited Richmond to find out more about the work of a charity that helps locate missing people. Kate and Gerry McCann, whose four-year-old daughter was kidnapped from Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3 last year, met representatives from East Sheen-based charity Missing People and Missing Children Europe.

Ross Miller, of Missing People, said the McCanns wanted to find out more about the charity's role within Missing Children Europe, the European Federation for Missing and Sexually Exploited Children, and to hear about its work first hand. He said: "Kate and Gerry were very interested to learn more about our new research programme.

"This aims to fill gaps in the information currently available about the numbers of people going missing, why they go missing, their experiences while away and the impact on those left behind." On the same day, 302 days after Madeleine's abduction, Gerry wrote on his blog praising the work of the charity.

He said: "Missing People were responsible for displaying Madeleine's image on Marble Arch, along with two other missing children last summer. "It was heartening to hear today that one of those children was recovered as a direct result and the other has also been successfully returned to his family."

The Richmond Guardian also received reports that the couple visited the Depot restaurant, in Tideway Yard, Mortlake High Street, and were being filmed. However, staff at the restaurant remained tight-lipped about the couple's visit and refused to comment about the filming."

Is it April Fools day already:? These child neglectors visiting a childrens charity. Interesting, seeing as their fund was not set up as charity, but as a company which in turn has duped countless people.

There is no evidence that Madeleine was 'kidnapped'. Her parents are official suspects (arguidos) in her disappearance and are being investigated by the Portuguese Police. The Missing People charity would do well to distance themselves from Mr and Mrs McCann who admit to leaving three children under the age of four alone in an unlocked apartment while they wined and dined at a considerable distance. The so-called 'recovered' child is in fact still living with the man for whom she left home. Perhaps facts should be checked by journalists prior to publication.

That's one 'charity' that I shall make a point of NOT donating to! Having meetings with 2 self-confessed negligent 'parents' who are also OFFICIAL police suspects in the disappearance of their own daughter! And why does the article say Maddie was 'kidnapped'?? That is NOT what the investigating police force think! Maddie has 'disappeared'. The police are trying to find out what happened to her - and are being hampered by the McCanns non-co-operation!

Posted by: Christine, London on 8:30pm Tue 4 Mar 08
If these two child neglecters have got time for publicity stunts, they've got time to answer the 40 questions the Policia Judiciaria asked and they refused to answer before hotfooting it back to the UK and hiring a team of expensive lawyers! A team that includes General Pinochet's extradition lawyer. Who can forget Pinochet (at death's door, according to his lawyer) being wheeled off the plane and leaping out of his wheelchair as soon as he was on safe ground?!

And another thing. Did they also visit reputica which is on the same street. Who specialise in reputations management? Interesting. Was this childrens charity thing just a smokescreen for the real agenda?

Like LB in Birmingham and I am sure, many countless others, I shall never donate to Missing People or Missing Children Europe because of their involvement with these poor excuses for parents Gerry and Kate McCann.

Posted by: SuziC, Bristol on 9:33pm Tue 4 Mar 08
Why are you reporting this as a "kidnapping"? As I understand it, the Portuguese Police have classed this as a "disappearance" due to the total lack of evidence to suggest an "abduction" or "kidnapping". Ian Mason, please use the correct terminology to avoid such misrepresentations of a case. Many thanks.

When will the media stop reporting about this vile couple, charity work indeed? this couple are the most selfish, self centered, greedy celebrity seeking media hungry vile couple, they do not do any thing for others(more so even their daughter) this is all a cover up of their real reason why they was there, this charity had better drop this couple like a hot brick, as it will have a damaging effect , to be linked any way to this couple of child neglecters (or even worse) hopefully we will find out soon as AT LAST the PJ are coming to interview them as well as their equally selfish friends and finally we will get JUSTICE FOR MADDIE!!!

What is Gerry McCann talking about? One of the three children whose image was projected onto Marble Arch has been, "recovered."? Well, it's not Madeleine he's talking about and it's not the boy. So, it must be Sammy Osborn and Sammy has not been, "recovered." Discovered maybe, but not reunited with her family. So, in what way has she been, "recovered."? Recovered from what? Certainly not from the place she disappeared to and is still living.

Posted by: Muzzy, Warwick on 9:57pm Tue 4 Mar 08
And Gerry, you could always ask that young girl's family if they think she's been, "recovered."

This couple deliberately chose to go out every night socialising with their frinds, leaving 3 toddlers alone where they could neither be seen or heard and then called this 'responsible parenting' Any childrens charity associating itself with them should be banned. And tat's before we even consider the fact that the police named them the prime suspects in their daughter's disappearance. This whole thing is unbelievable.

Madeleine went missing because these parents left 3 kids under 4 alone, night after night in a strange environment. I hope they contacted you for parental classes, something badly needed by them, considering they still deny their responsibility in that. I truly hope they will not be permitted to obfuscate their despicable role, that maybe even worse than "just" neglectful -ie being actively involved- by getting involved in ANY organization that works for/with children. It would make a mockery of child well being activities.

quote:
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews

DAILY MAIL: “The shocking truth behind daycare at nurseries and crèches”

“Britain’s childcare industry is booming,” says Imogen Willcox, who has no children. But she knows. And she’s blonde.

“Every working day, more than a million parents drop off their precious little cargos at childminders and private nurseries. All of them do it firm in the belief that those they trust with their babies are highly-qualified, strictly regulated and genuine, caring people. Terrifyingly, they are wrong.”

Spread the fear:

“During an eight-month investigation for the BBC1 investigative programme Whistleblower, I uncovered a childcare culture where a new career’s criminal records and references are never checked, yet they will immediately be left alone with young, vulnerable children.”

You mean someone with a conviction for criminal damage, non-payment of their TV licence or being banned from driving can be in charge of a child!?

And – worst of all – they may be left in the care of a childless TV reporter and Daily Mail writer posing as a caring nursery school helper as she snoops on her fellow staff members – those sad sacks circling life’s plughole without a media career!?

Imogen Willcox carries secret filming equipment into nurseries. Sick? Certainly. Perverted? You decide.

“The builders left their power tools inches away from where the children were playing and no one seemed to notice. I spent that particular session on tenterhooks,” says she.

Were the tools plugged on? Were they on, the drill whirring as Imogen reads the story of Little Red Riding Hood – the girl abducted by the leering wolf-like pervert? Frozen with fear, how could she turn them off or move them out of harm’s way?!

And what has this to do with Madeleine McCann? Patience. Imogen is working up to it. She secures a job on a Mark Warner holiday complex, a Hilton resort in Dahab, Egypt.

“Three weeks after I returned from Egypt, the disappearance of Madeleine McCann from a Mark Warner resort in Praia da Luz in Portugal made headlines around the world.

“No one blamed the company or its staff for the little girl’s disappearance, but given the case, I assumed the company would toughen up its vetting of nannies.”

Did the nanny do it? But the McCanns never hired a nanny to look after their children on that fateful night. What does Miss Willcox know?

Wat betreft die verhoren in de UK, iemand schrijft op het 3arguidoforum: "The ten days from the date of the acceptance of the rogatory letters by the Home Office included a visit to Portugal by a senior UK detective. The purpose of that visit was to review the questions ahead of the PJ's arrival in the UK. I had always assumed that, since the Leicestershire Police would be conducting the interrogation, this was to get everyone "on the same page" and that they would also work out the strategy for asking followup questions should the need arise. Once that meeting took place, then the PJ would be on their way to Leicester."

Laat niets te raden over lijkt me:

Dear Sir,

Apologies for the delay in coming back to you, due to the fact that I have been out of office last week.

Missing Children Europe has met informally with Kate and Gerry McCann, at the occasion of which the issues of concern for Missing Children Europe were discussed. The lunch refered to did however not take place.
Furthermore, the statement that Kate McCann would become an Ambassador for Missing Children Europe is also not true, and is as far as we are concerned purely a presupposition of certain newspapers.

I hope this clarifies the questions you had concerning this issue,

Best regards,

Bericht uit The Mirror: "Kate and Gerry McCann renew contract of Spanish private eyes Metodo 3 The Find Madeleine Fund yesterday voted to retain the agency despite suggestions it may be axed after its wild claim the McCanns' four-year-old - who went missing in Portugal last May - would be found by Christmas. Family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "That's all water under the bridge now." En inderdaad zijn de beide politiekorpsen uit de UK en Portugal in de Algarve aan het overleggen hoe de verhoren gaan plaatsvinden. Wat snippers:
quote:
Leicestershire Detective Superintendent Stuart Prior returned from discussions with counterparts in Portugal today.
quote:
Detectives have focused on the witness accounts given by the group, the so-called "Tapas Nine", to try to establish a timeline of events on that evening. Mr Prior flew to Portugal to discuss mutual legal assistance - the process where evidence is gathered in one country to help an investigation in another.

A Leicestershire police spokeswoman said: "Since Madeleine's disappearance, we, together with other law enforcement agencies, have been working closely with the Portuguese authorities. "Mr Prior has attended a series of meetings with his Portuguese counterparts. He travelled to Portugal on Tuesday and returned this morning.

"He went to discuss how the request for mutual legal assistance is to be executed and to seek clarification over elements of the request." The process itself could involve Portuguese police writing questions to be put to the friends on their behalf by their British counterparts. Officers involved in the investigation in the Algarve could still fly to Britain to sit in on the interviews, which are likely to be held at a location in Leicestershire.
quote:
A Home Office spokeswoman said: "We have already confirmed that we have received a mutual legal assistance request from the Portuguese authorities in connection with the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. "We are currently awaiting clarification from the Portuguese authorities over elements of the request. "Home Office officials continue to work closely with the police to assist the Portuguese authorities with this investigation." Daily Mail
En dan een stukje uit artikel uit de Telegraph, met als onderwerp: Alert 'would have saved' Madeleine McCann
quote:
"A Europe-wide missing-child alert system would have "without doubt" saved Madeleine McCann, an expert on child abduction said." Lady Catherine Meyer, who founded a charity to tackle child abduction, called for a single Europe-wide telephone number that parents could ring the moment their child went missing. The system, similar to the Amber Alert in the United States, would flash the child’s details up on television and motorway signs.
quote:
Heartbroken mum Kate McCann quietly sobs as she speaks for the first time of her guilt about leaving little daughter Madeleine alone the night she was snatched. "I feel desperately sorry to her that we weren't there," she says."Every hour now, I still ask myself, 'Why did I think that was safe?' But it did feel safe and so right. I do feel regret. I've gone through all my life and said I never want to have any regrets, but you can't not regret something like that." Uit The Sun 5/08/2007
Overigens, uit hetzelfde artikel van de Telegraph: "A spokesman for the McCanns said: "Kate and Gerry fully support any effort to increase co-ordination across Europe in the case where a child has gone missing. "In America they have the Amber Alert system for sending children’s details across the country quickly.

"They welcome anything that can lead to greater co-ordination across Europe that can help to stop other children going missing in the future." He added: "They know Catherine very well and have had discussion with her about this." The European Commission launched a Europe-wide missing-child hotline number, 116000, in February last year, but so far only Belgium, Denmark, Greece and Portugal have adopted the scheme.

There is reasonable belief by law enforcement an abduction has occurred
The abduction is of a child age 17 years or younger
The law-enforcement agency believes the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death
There is enough descriptive information about the victim and abduction for law enforcement to issue an AMBER Alert to assist in the recovery of the child
The child’s name and other critical data elements, including the Child Abduction flag, have been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer

Here we are now, entertain us.

quote:
British police have met Portuguese detectives to plan new interviews with the group of friends who dined with Gerry and Kate McCann on the night their daughter Madeleine disappeared.

Portuguese police continue to believe the so-called Tapas Nine - the McCanns and their seven friends - could still hold the solution to the unsolved mystery that began in May last year.

Madeleine was three when she went missing from her family's holiday apartment while her parents ate dinner 50 yards away

And Leicestershire Police said yesterday that Detective Superintendent Stuart Prior had returned from the Algarve after three days of meetings with counterparts in Portugal about how fresh interviews would be conducted.

Madeleine was three when she went missing from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz while her parents ate dinner at a tapas bar 50 yards away with their friends from England.

Portuguese detectives, who have been widely criticised for their failure to find any solid evidence or charge anyone, remain unsatisfied by the witness accounts given by the so-called Tapas Nine, as they try to establish a timeline of events on that evening.

Leicestershire Police said Det Supt Prior flew to Portugal to discuss the issue of mutual legal assistance, the process whereby evidence is gathered in one country to help an investigation in another.

"He went to discuss how the request for mutual legal assistance is to be executed, and to seek clarification over elements of the request."

The process could involve Portuguese police writing questions to be put to the friends on their behalf by their British counterparts.

But officers involved in the investigation in the Algarve also fly to Britain to sit in on the interviews, which are likely to be held at a location in Leicestershire.

Fiona Payne, Jane Tanner, Russell O' Brien and Rachael Oldfield were dining with the McCanns

The McCanns' spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: 'The sooner this re-interviewing takes place the better.

"The friends are very keen to help police understand their original statements. No one will be changing their story.

"We are not aware that Kate and Gerry are to be re-interviewed at this stage, but if so, that's not an issue."

Portuguese police continue to believe the so-called Tapas Nine - the McCanns and their seven friends - could still hold the solution to Maddy's disappearance

The McCanns, from Rothley in Leicestershire, were joined at the tapas restaurant on by Dr Matthew Oldfield and his recruitment consultant wife Rachael, Dr Russell O'Brien and his partner Jane Tanner, and medical researcher David Payne, his wife Fiona, and her mother Dianne Webster.

A Home Office spokeswoman said: "We have already confirmed that we have received a mutual legal assistance request from the Portuguese authorities in connection with the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

"We are currently awaiting clarification from the Portuguese authorities over elements of the request.

"Home Office officials continue to work closely with the police to assist the Portuguese authorities with this investigation."

British expat Robert Murat, 34, a sometime estate agent, was made an official suspect two weeks into the inquiry when police suddenly swooped on the villa he shares with his mother less than 100 yards from the McCanns' holiday flat.

He has not been charged, but remains under official suspicion.

Portuguese Police later made Gerry and Kate McCann themselves their chief targets, but again no charges have followed.

So true, maar het betreft de 'well conected' couple of docters, with connections that is.

quote:
McCann lawyers warn Express group Lawyers acting for Kate and Gerry McCann are considering taking legal action against Express Newspapers over what the couple claim to be a series of "wildly and grossly defamatory" articles about their missing daughter Madeleine.

The McCanns have made official complaints to Richard Desmond's newspaper group about its coverage in the Daily Express, Sunday Express, Daily Star and Daily Star Sunday through London law firm Carter Ruck, which specialises in high profile libel cases. They are thought to be particularly upset by the coverage in the Daily Express, which has splashed on a nearly daily basis on the Madeleine case with what they believe are increasingly lurid stories and headlines.

The McCanns' spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, confirmed that complaints had been made to the newspaper group. "Carter Ruck have been instructed to act on behalf of the McCanns to seek redress and discussions are ongoing, but beyond that it would be inappropriate to speculate on other courses of action," he said.

Adam Tudor, who is acting for the McCanns at Carter Ruck, added: "I and my firm have been instructed to bring complaints on their behalf and these complaints are ongoing." The McCanns' legal moves against Express Newspapers were reported by Private Eye this week, although Mitchell said the magazine's claim that the McCanns were seeking £4m in damages was "wildly speculative".

He added that any damages won would go back into the Find Madeleine fund, which currently stands at £544,000 - nearly half the £1.2m it started with. Mitchell said the McCanns were not targeting any one story in particular but were angry about a series of "wildly and grossly defamatory articles".

It is understood the McCanns are focussing on Express Newspapers as they believe its newspapers to be "amongst the worst offenders" and want a full apology and damages as well as costs. Under UK law, the McCanns and their lawyers have a year from the publication of an article to decide whether they wish to take legal action against its content.

It is thought that in the case of the coverage they are assessing, that year would be up some time in mid-May and a decision must be taken by then. Express Newspapers was contacted by MediaGuardian.co.uk but had not commented by the time of publication.

quote:
Dozens will be heard in England Dozens of people, among friends of McCann, tourists and former officials of the Ocean Club, in Praia da Luz, will be surveyed over the next few days in England.

According to information collected by PortugalDiário, the investigation was requested by the Portuguese authorities through letters rogatory and will be met by British police over the coming weeks.

Apart from interrogations, which should not include the couple McCann, it will still be complied with the search warrant, in order, inter alia, to the seizure of the diary of Kate McCann, the mother of the minor disappeared, May 3 last year, described the relationship with their children. The steps will be met by British authorities but count with the presence of Portuguese researchers.

"Testimonials divergent and collection of new information"

The eight friends of Kate and Gerry, who passed vacation in Praia da Luz, last May, and other British tourists who were, a pair of former officials of the venture will be reporting on steps aimed essentially determine possible different testimonies and gather new information.

Also according to information collected by PortugalDiário, the process simply no longer be covered by the secrecy of justice, after the full implementation of the investigation. It is recalled that at the beginning of the year, the prosecutor asked the investigating judge, and this granted, the extension of the secrecy of justice for a further three months. The prosecutor relied on the exceptional complexity of the case.

Abduction, murder and concealment of corpse

Under the law, after eight months on the formation of the first defendant in the case, the Portuguese-British Robert Murata (May 14), the prosecutor should file the case or inferred accusation. Do not having done until January 14, the prosecutor had to request the extension of the period for another three months.

This request of the prosecutor to prohibit the access of parties and the public to the proceeding may be postponed for a maximum period of three months, renewable once by [particularly in crimes against the life and liberty of the people], for a period objectively indispensable the conclusion of the investigation. It should be noted that throughout the process the thesis of abduction and murder and subsequent concealment of corpses have been addressed.

Besides Murat, also parents of Maddie, Kate and Gerry, consisted defendants in September, for suspected involvement in the disappearance of the minor. Madeleine McCann, four years old, disappeared May 3 to an apartment in a resort in Praia da Luz, while parents jantavam a restaurant, a few metres away. PortugalDiario
quote:
Has the Express group done a deal with the McCanns? After pulling all the articles about the McCanns from their on-line Newspapers, we now know the McCanns and their Carter Ruck Lawyers were to sue the Express Newspapers for around £4m.

Clarence Mitchell said: "We are extremely unhappy with The Express Group's coverage. We always said it was the worst amongst all the tabloids."

Again I ask, it strikes me that the British press in general, like the Daily Mail, the Sun or the Mirror, have been publishing identical stories, many fed by Clarence Mitchell, sometimes copied from the Portuguese Press , so why are they going after the Express group in particular? Apparently, a deal was done, maybe some money was thrown in for no libel action and some exclusive McCann spin?

So, just like before when Mari Luz was reported to be missing, a connection was made to Madeleine's alleged kidnapping (a previously dismissed link by the Spanish Police). Today, the day that some respect should be given to the grieving family of Mari Luz Cortés, the Express reports about a dead girl, not even writing Mari Luz name, and a link to Madeleine."

quote:
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann and Shannon Matthews

DAILY RECORD: “Body In River Is Mari Luz”

Sad news. The picture of a girl. A girl not here.

THE body of a girl found in a river estuary in south-west Spain was identified last night as that of missing Mari Luz Cortes. Five-year-old Mari Luz vanished on January 13 after going to buy sweets from a stall only yards from her front door in Huelva.

The town is near the border with Portugal and less than two hours’ drive from where Madeleine McCann went missing.

Last night Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate sent a message of support to Mari Luz’s mother and father, Juan Jose Cortes, 34, a former professional footballer, and Irene Suarez.

Are the cases linked? Spain and Portugal. A body found. A child missing. Are the McCanns now nodding heads with whom the media consult and look to for an easy quote whenever a child goes missing; a child is killed; a child goes missing somewhere in the world?

THE SUN: “Mari Luz Cortes found in river”

The five-year-old’s parents feared she had been snatched like Madeleine McCann when she vanished on January 13. Last night Maddie’s parents Kate and Gerry were “extremely saddened”.

Who cannot be made sad by such grim news? Who in their right mind?

Huelva is less than two hours’ drive from Praia da Luz where Maddie, four, disappeared on holiday in Portugal last May. The McCanns, both 39, of Rothley, Leics, said their “thoughts and prayers” were with parents Juan Jose, 34, and Irene, who had been sure Mari was being held alive.

The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “They had developed a sense of unity with Mari Luz’s parents. Both families were going through similar agonies.”

Will the press now look for a new child to link Madeleine McCann to?

DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Spanish police find body of missing girl”

Her disappearance less than two hours drive from Praia da Luz in the Algarve had prompted police to investigate whether there was any link to the apparent abduction of Madeleine McCann.

INDEPENDENT: Deborah Orr provides context.

Many commentators have remarked that the disappearance of Shannon Matthews has not made the same impact as the disappearance of Madeleine McCann because of “class”. There is truth in that, but not all of it is as uncomplicated as some observers suggest.

There was an undercurrent in the McCann case of antipathy towards the couple, who could dine out each evening in a nice resort but scrimped on babysitting, and a sinister hope that these seemingly upright citizens might have had a hand in their daughter’s fate, and that their “class” might be shielding them from exposure.

There is, at least, no such smear of Schadenfreude in the Matthews case. It is understood that nine-year-old girls going home from school in insalubrious areas are rarely, but plausibly, abducted.

There may have been no great rush to sanctify Karen Matthews, whose anguish over the loss of her daughter is not questioned. But there has been little attempt to accuse her either. People feel sorrow, but not as much surprise. The less comfortable an existence you have, the more likely it is that you will undergo awful life experiences. That isn’t class prejudice, but a sad fact of life in a remarkably unequal society.

Money. A missing child is a matter of money? A mising child is a matter of a white middle-class media entertaining its white middle-class readers? A mising child is a matter of empathy?
