Pakistan 'set for emergency rule'
Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf is poised to impose emergency rule, local TV channels have reported.
Private television channels Geo News and Dawn News have both quoted unnamed sources as saying the government had made up its mind.
Speculation has been mounting that Gen Musharraf might impose emergency rule.
He is awaiting a Supreme Court ruling on whether he was eligible to run for re-election last month while remaining army chief.
Pakistan has been engulfed in political upheaval in recent months, at the same time as the security forces have suffered a series of blows from pro-Taleban militants opposed to Gen Musharraf's support for the US-led "war on terror".

Talking to reporters at a meeting with Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) delegation here at the Prime Minister's House, Aziz said, "I do not want to comment on these reports as these are all speculations. The media should avoid such speculations as they lead to uncertainty."

There has been no official confirmation of any decision about emergency rule, but Gen Musharraf has been holding high-level meetings to discuss the violence in the north-west of the country.
Reuters quoted an unnamed senior official as saying Gen Musharraf planned to seek approval for emergency rule during a cabinet meeting.
One TV channel reported that emergency rule may involve the suspension of the constitution.
Parliamentary elections are due in January. [bbc news]
