TV.comKiefer Sutherland makes plea for drunk-driving arrest; opts for more jail time so 24 will keep on ticking.
Fox's number-one superagent is going to jail. Kiefer Sutherland pleaded no contest to drunken-driving charges stemming from an arrest two weeks ago, reports Reuters.
As part of the deal, which has yet to be approved by the presiding judge but was OKed by the prosecutors, Sutherland agreed to 48 days in jail--though the time won't be consecutive. The actor is looking to serve his sentence in two parts so as not to interfere with the production of the hit show he stars in, 24.
If the request is approved, Sutherland will spend 18 days in jail during the show's winter break in late December and early January. Once production wraps on the show's seventh season, Sutherland will return to the pen for an additional 30 days.
In fact, Sutherland reportedly opted for more jail time rather than see the production of 24 disrupted.
"He told us that even if he had to sacrifice more time in custody in order to protect the show and the jobs of those who work with him, he would do so," Fox reps told Reuters.
This wasn't the first time that Sutherland was caught tipsy behind the wheel. September's arrest was a violation of probation from a 2004 drunken-driving charge.
The seventh season of 24 is due to begin in January.
=========================
Kiefer Sutherland is quite looking forward to the day when the creators of the unnerving Fox TV show 24 do unto his Jack Bauer character what they've done to so many others: kill him off, brutally, but with few tears. Een oud interview wat vooral over Kiefer als persoon gaat en zn liefde voor muziek!
