Discografie:quote:LCD Soundsystem debuted with Losing My Edge, a single that became one of the most talked-about indie releases of 2002. A self-effacing spoof of the outrageous pissing contests that often occur whenever music geeks cross paths ("I was there at the first Can show in Cologne," etc.) laid over a puttering electronic beat with the occasional bursts of discoid clatter, the track was also one of the first released on the DFA label. Several magazines and newspapers would eventually declare James Murphy, the man behind both LCD Soundsystem and DFA, to be one of the coolest people on the planet.
Years of obscurity and the occasional poor decision preceded this. Just before Murphy began to cut his teeth throughout the '90s, first as a member of Pony (an average post-hardcore band with heavy debts to their inspirations) and then with Speedking (a much stronger, more unique band), he passed up the opportunity to write for the popular sitcom Seinfeld. All the time spent toiling in indie rock took a toll on Murphy, but he built his own studio and became increasingly adept at engineering and producing other bands. While working on David Holmes' Bow Down to the Exit Sign, he struck up a relationship with programmer/producer Tim Goldsworthy that developed into a partnership.
By the end of 2002, there were several releases on Murphy and Goldsworthy's DFA label, most of which involved the duo in some capacity. LCD's "Losing My Edge," backed with an excellent neo-post-punk dance track called "Beat Connection," was one of them. Murphy scattered three other LCD singles through the end of 2004 and released a self-titled full-length in January 2005. At the time of its release, the DFA label was more popular than ever; Murphy and Goldsworthy had remixes for Metro Area, N.E.R.D., Le Tigre, and Junior Senior behind them, as well as failed sessions with Britney Spears that might've benefited from an interpreter. Janet Jackson was another unlikely admirer seeking the duo's assistance, but Murphy didn't bother to follow up on her request. Sound of Silver, the second LCD album, came out in March 2007.

quote:LCD Soundsystem Beg Fans Not To Leak New Album, But Too Late
Two nights ago, LCD Soundsystem played a secret show in New York. On stage, frontman James Murphy said that fans could copy their new album, but pleaded with anyone in the audience who may have an advance copy not to leak it before the release date. Unfortunately the plea either fell on deaf ears, or was just made in the wrong place to the wrong people.
Albums, movies, TV shows, software, games and just about anything that can be digitized have been leaking out onto the Internet for a long time now.
Over the last 10 years there has been a growing tendency for those affected to acknowledge that leaks happen (rather than pretend that they don’t) and increasingly news of leaks have made big headlines
However, as with all ‘new’ phenomena, leaks have become so common that it’s pretty much taken as fact that everything will leak in some way or another – it’s just a question of when.
While bands like BuckCherry were more than happy to leak their own music in order to gain some publicity, others aren’t so keen for their material to end up on the Internet, particularly at a time of someone else’s choosing.
It seems that LCD Soundsystem is one such band. According to NME, two nights ago the band played a secret gig at New York’s Webster Hall, which was part of a drive to mark the band’s return to the live circuit.
After playing tracks from earlier albums, the band played some songs from their new album “This Is Happening” which is due out on May 17th. Then frontman James Murphy made an unusual request to those in attendance.
“If you got a copy of the record early and you feel like sharing it with the rest of the world, then please don’t,” he said on bended knees to the 1,500 fans present.
“We spent two years making this record and we want to put it out when we want to put it out. I don’t care about money – after it comes out, give it to whoever you want for free but until then, keep it to yourself,” he added.
The album has already appeared on at least one private tracker and it won’t be long before it leaks to others and onto the wider Internet.
Although Murphy will undoubtedly be disappointed at this leak, he should take comfort that the band’s fans will be supportive of them and their forthcoming gigs will be filled to capacity. Hopefully they will also pick up some new fans.
As ever though, the biggest question is who leaked the advance copy? The smart money is on an industry insider, as usual.

quote:In a special edition of World Cafe, LCD Soundsystem performs in studio ... in London. James Murphy's band played the Glastonbury Festival on June 27 as part of a European festival tour and had a few days to kill, so it stopped by The Pool at Miloco Studios in Bermondsey.
The recording is killer, and "Drunk Girls" — the first single from LCD Soundsystem's acclaimed album This is Happening — sounds much better here than on record. Props to engineer Joe Adams and his assistant, Matt Wiggins.
In an interview with host David Dye, Murphy explains the danger of reading too much into his songs, clarifies the future of LCD Soundsystem, and calls summer music festivals a "mixed blessing." Murphy was such an intriguing interview, we didn't have time to include a live version of oldie-but-goodie "Daft Punk is Playing at My House" in the broadcast. But hey, that's whats the web's for, right?

Trailerquote:On April 2nd 2011, LCD Soundsystem played its final show at Madison Square Garden. LCD frontman James Murphy had made the conscious decision to disband one of the most celebrated and influential bands of its generation at the peak of its popularity, ensuring that the band would go out on top with the biggest and most ambitious concert of its career. The instantly sold out, near four-hour extravaganza did just that, moving the thousands in attendance to tears of joy and grief, with NEW YORK magazine calling the event "a marvel of pure craft" and TIME magazine lamenting "we may never dance again." SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS is both a narrative film documenting this once in a life time performance and an intimate portrait of James Murphy as he navigates the lead-up to the show, the day after, and the personal and professional ramifications of his decision.

Inmiddels zijn er ook al 2 nummers van het nieuwe album vrijgegeven:quote:hello humans. this is just a note to say that we're done with the record. like, totally done with the music and mixing. just some art stuff to finish, but it's been mastered already and the lacquers are winging their way to the pressing plant (which is, i think, where they'll make the mothers and stampers, etc.). i've been wrangling the fastest route between final mix and record release for the past few weeks so that there isn't such a lag, and i think it'll be soon. 6 weeks is the very fastest, i think, but it will likely be longer than that. just trying to get all the ducks in a row so that there's someone with a catcher's mitt waiting at each stage. we mixed the last song last wednesday, and korey ran to (a national overnight carrier) to get it to bob weston over at Chicago Mastering Service for the next morning. then we took off to play sasquatch in washington, and now i'm home proofreading lyrics and credits and all that crap. sorry it took so long, honestly. i didn't think it would, but i, once again, underestimated the distractions inherent in touring and living a "life". this will be the last record at the original DFA Studios, as we're closing that down after the building was sold, so there's a lot to digest for me. i've been there nearly 20 years now, and i wasn't a particularly young man when it opened, so there's that.
anyway, be well, thank you for yr patience (even when it manifested as semi-angry "where the fuck is the RECORD< james!" posts!) and very much looking forward to getting this to you.
james
Klik hier voor die download.quote:hi everybody. the record comes out tomorrow (well, tonight at midnight wherever you are) and last night at midnight we shared an extra track for the LP called pulse (v.1). it's not precisely part of the record, but it's an addendum (or maybe a codicil?) meant to go after the last track, black screen.
there are a few reasons for this: one, pulse wouldn't fit on the vinyl, so i didn't include it there (i think we'll put together a 12" with the other versions of pulse when there's a moment, but that won't be quick... tour and all.) and two, i really, really like this track.
this track began as a weird and fun synth collaboration between the amazing gavin russom and i on some very weird machines, and wound up developing into something else entirely, with pat and al and nancy, and korey playing congas. there was even more development which isn't included in this version, but that's for future iterations. tyler was in berlin, unfortunately. but there will be other versions.
it's a mix that we did a long time ago after the first session of the track, and it's grown on me as a track to listen to after the LP. it's super wonky, and i really didn't want to square the human-ness off of it, but just let it be what it is. so you don't have to tell me that it sounds super fucked up. i know.
anyway, we figured the best thing to do was just give it away for free. sure, you can still get it on various platforms, and it'll be on the streaming service things, but you can also just go to the lcd homepage and get it for free.
and there you have it.
