Hier alvast een eerste bericht:
As you’re preparing for the debate tonight, I wanted to share some moments from Gov. Sarah Palin’s last debate outings. In the 2006 AlaskaGubernatorial election, she participated in more than 20 debates and joint forums against 21-year Senator and incumbent Governor Frank Murkowski (in the primary) and former Governor Tony Knowles (in the General election.) Footage of these debates is hard to come by, but we have located some and posted it online.
In contrast to her unsteady and erratic performances on the national stage, Palin held her own in her Gubernatorial campaign showing knowledge of complex local issues and Alaskan Constitutional and Legislative Procedure . She also demonstrated that she could attack, counterpunch and even offer confident defenses of even her most extreme ideological views.
Indeed the issue seems to be whether the Gov Palin that shows up tonight will be the Palin heavily coached and scripted by a panicked McCain campaign, or the Gov. Palin who can calmly and confidently discuss topics she has a working knowledge of.

Palin Masterful At Tap-Dancing. “Palin was difficult to debate, [Andrew] Halcro added, because while she didn't know the issues well, she was masterful at tap-dancing around questions and offering "glittering generalities" or populist "happy talk." Halcro told The Los Angeles Times that in a private conversation after a debate in Fairbanks, Palin questioned her opponent's heavy focus on issue positions. "I look out over the audience, and I wonder: Is that really important?" Halcro recalled Palin saying.” [The New Republic (

Former Adversaries: Don’t Underestimate Palin. “But the consensus among Palin's former adversaries is not to underestimate her ferocity. Tony Knowles, a Democrat who ran against Palin for governor, said Palin was a strong opponent who "never missed a beat." Similarly, John Binkley, who ran against her in the Republican gubernatorial primary, praised Palin's debate skills and said he could never find a way to one-up her.” [The New Republic (

Palin Is “Very Good On Her Feet.” “I did spend my Sunday night watching that old Palin gubernatorial debate on C-Span, along with a number of our commenters. And it was impressive. We saw last week that she knows how to wrestle with a TelePrompTer and a prepared text, but Sarah Palin is also very good on her feet.” [Time.com (

Expectations “Even” For Biden And Palin. “There will be a lot of issues in that debate, particularly Sarah Palin, who is still an unfamiliar figure. But you know what? They don't know that much about Joe Biden, either. And when we ask people who do you think would do a better job in the vice presidential debate, it was almost just about a tie. About as many people said Biden as Palin. So they're going to go into that debate with even expectations.” [Bill Schneider, CNN: This Week In Politics, 9/28/08]
Palin Will Do Just Fine. “But for this debate, no one is going to benefit more from low expectations than Sarah Palin. She has got about the lowest expectations. People think she's going to come on and babble incoherently, and I think she's going to do just fine.” [Mara Liasson, Fox News Sunday Roundtable, 9/28/08]
